Presentation Guidelines

Guidelines for Oral Presentations:

Oral presentations will be 15 minutes in length, with 5 minutes for questions and transition to the next talk. Presentations should contain an introduction, an explanation of methods, and a conclusion or summary of findings, and should be aimed at a general audience. Visual aids should be used if at all possible. Slides, transparencies, or computer slides are all possible. Color transparencies can be made in the Undergraduate Research Office, KH 124, CPO 2170. Computer animated presentations are welcome if we are notified IN ADVANCE.

Guidelines for Poster Presentations:

Poster presentations should be designed to fit on a board 40 inches wide and 46 inches high. Posters can be made as a single unit or in pieces. Posters will attach to the poster board with Velcro (the "sticky" side) only. Posters must be prepared so that they can be read from at least four feet away. The poster should include the title of the presentation, the name of the student and the research advisor, and the department in which the research was done. Posters to be taken off-campus (to NCUR, for example) should include the name of the institution. Simply stapling a typed paper to the Velcro board is not acceptable. Visual displays work best, with written information bulleted.
