NCUR 2010 PRESENTATION GRANT

Purpose: The NCUR 2009 Presentation Grant will fund students to the Twenty-Fourth National Conference on Undergraduate Research, to be held at University of Montana, Missoula, Missoula Montana, April 15-17, 2010.

Eligibility: Any currently enrolled UNC Asheville student or graduate from Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 are eligible to apply. Preference is given to full-time students.

Grant Requirements: Materials needed for the NCUR 2009 grant include the UNCA Application form, 300 word abstract, and a statement from the faculty advisor supporting the student's research. Example of Abstract
 

Note: Students are NOT to submit their abstracts to the organizers of the National Conference on Undergraduate Research. The Undergraduate Research Program Advisory Council will forward abstracts for funded students directly to the conference organizers.

 

The grant will cover your hotel, transportation, registration fee and submission fee for the Proceedings. The grant will not cover excursion trips, tee shirts. Those students who receive an NCUR 2009 grant are required to contact the Undergraduate Research Program at 251-6122 or mlemaste@unca.edu, to schedule a video taping of their presentation with their advisor. Video taping will be held in the Ramsey Library from dates and times TBA.

Student awardees are also REQUIRED to submit their research results in written form (example) to the Proceedings of the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research by February 27, 2010. in order to avoid the $10.00 late fee which you are responsible for.

The following criteria will be used to assess the Proposals:

-Quality of the research as described in the abstract.
-The contribution the research makes to the field.
-The degree to which the faculty sponsor is involved with the research project.
-The ability of the student to complete the research before the National Conference
-The value to the student of the opportunity of making a presentation to a national audience.
-The completeness of the proposal and the extent to which it follows the guidelines specified on the application form.

Students who have been past recipients may reapply. Priority will be given to first-time applicants. Also, although faculty occasionally sponsor more than one student at a time, it may be necessary to limit the number of awards per faculty member in the interest of distributing funding across the university.
 

University Research Scholar Nomination

If you are a graduating in July, December or May, you may qualify as a University Research Scholar. If you answer yes to the following questions, please be sure and fill out the URS nomination form. http://www.unca.edu/urp/URSap.html .

 

     ü      Is my research original?

ü      Did I present my research at the Fall or Spring Symposia?  NCUR? State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research Symposium or other? Must show proof of other presentation.

ü      Did I publish my research? If other than UNC Asheville Journal, BigSURS, or NCUR must show proof that your paper has been accepted for publication.
