Who? Students of UNC Asheville

What? The Great Bus About, a transit promotion event

When? TBA

Where? Meeting at the Highsmith Union and will travel in teams all over the city!

How? Using Asheville Transit's free unlimited transit pass program (With students One Card)!

Why? To introduce students to Asheville Transit in an entertaining and exciting manner, to familiarize new freshmen with the Asheville area, and to have a lot of fun & win prizes!

In an effort to introduce students to Asheville Transit and local businesses, UNC-Asheville's Transportation office, along with Student Orientation and Student Activities Integrated learning, is putting on a promotional game entitled “The Great Bus About.” The event is being targeted towards the entire student body, but particularly new students starting at UNC Asheville.

The event will be starting at noon, in front of govenors hall, on Saturday, August 23rd. In teams of four, students will ride transit, bike or walk around town, stopping at local businesses to collect points and prizes. At the end of the day, the teams will reconvene for the awarding of the grand prize!

To participate in this event please fill out a Sign up Form and return to the transportation office.

Participating businesses of the past have included: The HOP, Youngblood Cycles, Malaprops, Great Clips, Sunny Point, Earth Fare, West End Bakery, Karmasonics, Mellow Mushroom, BioWheels, Rio Burrito, ClimbMax, Harvest Records, The Orange Peel, and Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company, .

The past event on 8/12/07 was the third annual Bus About.
Last year's event has been recognized by the Association for Commuter Transportation www.actweb.org/ as a top contender for the 2007 ACT award in the Creative Excellence.
