Åbo Akademi University
The Åbo/Turku Consortium consists of Åbo Akademi University (founded
1918; 8,000 students), the University of Turku (founded 1920; 18,000
students), and the Turku School of Economics and Business Administration
(founded 1950; 2,000 students). Total enrollment/ consortium: 28,000.
The three universities are situated on adjacent campuses and within
walking distance to the city center. ISEP students register at one of the
three universities and choose from courses taught in English in over 40
different subject areas that are offered by the universities every
academic year.
The international offices at the three universities all offer services to
incoming exchange students. An orientation program, excursions, student
tutors, and advisory services all form part of the warm welcome that
students receive. A Virtual Orientation Course, which contains useful
information on most aspects of studies and life in Turku/Åbo, is offered

Helsinki University of
Technology
(TKK)
Founded as the Helsinki Technical School in 1849, Helsinki University
of Technology (TKK) is the oldest and largest technical university in
Finland. HUT trains close to 50 percent of all Finnish university students
in technological fields and offers high quality programs in English. The
university has about 15,000 students. Total number of international
students is about 1100.

Lappeenranta University
of Technology
Founded in 1969, Lappeenranta University of Technology is a young and
rapidly growing university with a firm international foothold in its areas
of specialization. An outstanding characteristic of the university is its
integration of business and technology in teaching and research, fortified
by the university's expanding contacts with surrounding businesses and
industries. The rapid growth of technological know-how in the region is
exemplified by numerous national research units and the Kareltek
Technology Centre, a link between industry and technology in transferring
the results of research and development. The university also offers a
library, and language, computing and continuing education centers. Total
enrollment: approximately 4,800 undergraduate and 650 graduate students.

Tampere University of
Technology
Tampere University of Technology (TUT) has grown rapidly since it was
founded in 1965. TUT is able to link expertise in different areas of
engineering in a flexible manner. Tampere Technology Center-Hermia, NOKIA
company, and the Tampere laboratories of the Technical Research Center of
Finland (VTT) are both neighbors and partners of the university. The
university library offers a digital learning environment with a number of
information materials and PC facilities on campus and wireless Internet
access in the library. Total enrollment: 12,000 (700 international

University of Helsinki
The University of Helsinki, the oldest and largest university in
Finland, celebrated its 350th anniversary in 1990. Its students make up a
quarter of all university students in the country. Several subjects are
taught exclusively at the University of Helsinki and it also offers the
largest variety of instruction in English. The number of international
students surpasses 1,900, about half of all international students in
Finland. Total enrollment: 39,000.

University of Joensuu
Founded in 1969, The University of Joensuu is a renowned center for
research and teaching on education and human development, forests and the
environment optics, new materials and information technology, and on
border studies and Russia. Facilities include the Ecological Research
Institute, Karelian Institute, focusing on the humanities and social
sciences; the Mekrijärvi Research Station at Ilomantsi for advanced study
in hydrobiology and forestry; the Botanical Garden; and the Muikku
Research Vessel, which specializes in environmental studies in inland
waters. The university library features the Kalevala Collection,
comprising about 600 works on the Finnish national epic. Total enrolment:
8,300 (553 international students in 2005).

University of Jyväskylä
Established as a teacher training college in the 1860's, the University
of Jyvaskyla is a top-ranked university characterized by a high level of
technological sophistication, active international cooperation, and
teaching that is constantly developing to meet the challenges of future
professions. Total enrollment: 15,000 (600 international students). There
are three main campus areas: the Main Campus (conveniently located in the
city center), Mattilanniemi Campus on the shore of Lake Jyvasjarvi, and
Ylistorinne Campus on the opposite shore of the lake and connected to
Mattilanniemi by bridge.
The university has received national and international recognition for
teaching and research carried out in its fields of expertise, including
evolutionary ecology, human development and risk factors, nuclear physics,
nanosciences, and sport sciences. In addition to high academic standards,
the university provides comprehensive services for international students,
including an arrival service, a student tutor system, and orientation and
friendship family programs.

University of Kuopio
The University of Kuopio is a research-oriented university specializing
in teaching and research in health care and environmental sciences, as
well as associated biosciences, biotechnologies, information technology
and business administration. The university has about 6,200 students,
including 270 international students.
Kuopio Science Park is a focal point of innovative education, research,
and expertise projects managed by the university, several national
research institutes and private companies. It is famous for world-class
expertise in health care technology, pharmaceutical development and
biotechnology.
The services of the Learning Center, Computing Center, university
libraries, Student Union, Student Health Care Center and sports facilities
are available to students on campus.

University of Oulu
The University of Oulu was founded in 1958, and has since grown
rapidly, establishing itself as one of the leading universities in
Finland. The university prides itself on high quality teaching and
learning, as well as pioneering and innovative research. Total enrollment
is more than 16,600 students, of which close to 800 are international
students.
The university occupies modern, spacious premises and is equipped with the
latest computer and data processing facilities for the use of staff and
students alike. The main campus was designed to accommodate a northern
climate and features colorful and comfortable interior spaces with
greenhouse plantings and sunrooms. The university's Botanical Gardens
(called Romeo and Juliet), zoo, Natural History Museum, and Museum of
Geology are located on the main campus. There is well-equipped sports
complex.
The university has two campuses: the main campus, Linnanmaa, is located
about three miles north of the city center; and the faculty of medicine is
just over a mile from the city center. Excellent public transportation in
the city facilitates easy access to the campus.

Tampere, which achieved university status in 1966, is one of the
largest universities in Finland. The university does not have a campus as
such; classes are offered in Tampere's downtown area and in the towns of
Hameenlinna and Pori. Also affiliated with the university are the
University Library, the Language Center, the Computer Center, the Center
for Peace Research, the Institute for Extension Studies, the Research
Institute for Social Sciences, the Institute of Medical Technology, the
Tampere School of Public Health, and the Finnish Social Science Data
Archive. Students at the university may study at other institutions in and
near Tampere, such as Tampere University of Technology. Total enrollment:
