WindowsNT Instructions
1.Login as the "administrator."
2.Left-click once on the start button and select
"Settings" and then select "control panels."
3.Open the Network Control Panel by double left-clicking
on the Network control panel.
4.Left-click the Adapter tab to see if your Ethernet
adapter is installed. If it is there, then skip to IP configuration/installation
of protocols and services section. If it is not listed proceed to step 5
5.Click on the "Add" button located at the mid-left
portion of the window.
6.Once the list of various Ethernet Adapters is displayed,
choose YOUR particular adapter
7.WindowsNT should ask you for your WinNT CD at this
point. Insert it in the CD-ROM drive and click the "continue" button.
8.After the installation from the CD click the "close
button." NT will then go through its rebuild and bind status. During this
process the TCP/IP properties will come up. Assure that your adapter is
displayed and then click on the option that states: "Obtain an IP address from a
DHCP server."
9.Click the "Ok" button and restart the computer as
instructed.
10.Once rebooted, only follow steps 1-5 of the IP
configuration/Installation of Protocols and Services section.
IP Configuration/Installation of Protocols and Services
1.Left-click once on the start button and select
"Settings" and then select "control panels."
2.Open the Network Control Panel by double left-clicking
on the Network control panel.
3.Upon installation of Windows NT 4.0, a computer name and
workgroup/domain name is required. The Computer name is how you would like your
machine to be recognized on the network by others. The Workgroup name is the
name of your particular Residence Hall.
4.Click on the Services tab and assure that you have the
following services installed:
Computer Browser
Workstation
Simple TCP/IP Services
NetBIOS Interface
RPC Configuration
If they are not installed, they can be installed via a
left-click of the "Add" button. (Note: be sure to have your Windows NT
Workstation CD and accompanying diskettes for this and the following steps).
Next left-click on the Protocols Tab and assure that you
have the following protocols installed:
TCP/IP Protocol
(Optional) NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport
(Optional) NWLink NetBIOS
If they are not installed, they can be installed via a
left-click of the "Add" button and add the necessary protocol(s). (Note: If you
followed the Hardware Configuration directions, steps 1-12 above, this is your
last step. Click the "OK" button, insert the WinNT CD and restart your computer
as instructed.)
Highlight TCP/IP and select "Properties." Under "IP
Address" your Ethernet Adapter is displayed choose obtain IP from DHCP server.
Next, reboot.
