Getting Ready For In-Room Assistance
In-room assistance is given to students that are having problems
connecting to the Internet.
By using the Appointment icon to the left, we will have a ResNet
consultant help to setup the necessary hardware and software on your
computer. The consultant will also verify the connection and show
the student how to use their new Internet connection. The student
must be present and have all necessary hardware and software needed
when the consultant arrives.
Assuming your computer meets the minimum functional requirements,
you may still need to purchase an Ethernet card. Ethernet cards can
be purchased from area retail stores or online. Students are reminded that if
you plan to have a UNCA ResNet consultant install your card for you,
you must have the card in hand prior to your appointment.
If You Make an Appointment
Be on time. Have your card and cable in hand. Do not leave the room
during the appointment. If you need to cancel, please notify
the ResNet Administrator. Use good judgment! Leave your door open,
be fully dressed, and remind roommates that they are not to be in
bed, showering, smoking, etc.
Students who do not abide by these terms will be required to
reschedule.
Preventing Crashes & Data Loss
While most computer systems now on the market have a high rate of
component compatibility, there is no guarantee that a conflict will
not occur during hardware or software installation. Therefore, we
recommended that you always store a backup of your personal files
and programs to removable media such as cd-rom.
Likewise, the consultant will take every precaution to insure a
system error does not occur, but consultants will not be liable for
conflicts beyond their control.
Addressing Other Problems
