Intramurals

How Do I Enter A Team?

Each team captain or intramural representative is responsible for forming and entering his or her own team. A completed entry form must be submitted to the Intramural Sorts Office by the appropriate deadline. Entry forms and rules sheets are available on this website, here.

The following procedure should be used for each sport:

  • Review the Intramural Sports Schedule and choose the sport(s) in which you would like to participate.
  • Have the team captain or representative attend the informational meeting for the sport(s).
  • For sports that require your attendance at a captain's meeting, all teams must be represented at these meetings.
  • For individual/dual and special events, each participant must pick up the proper entry forms and return them to the intramural office by the entry deadline.
  • Schedules for all activities will be available as soon as possible and may be picked up at the intramural office by the team captain. Please make sure your team has someone assigned to pick up your schedules!

Who is Eligible for Intramural Sports?

  • All currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students on the UNC Asheville campus who have paid the student activity fee.
  • All current UNC Asheville faculty and staff members.
  • Recreation Pass holders.
  • Participants must show a valid UNC Asheville ID each time they play.

What If I Want To Play, But I Don't Have A Team?

Any Student, Faculty, or Staff member who wants to participate in any Intramural Sport, but does not have a team to play with, please come by the Intramural Office and we will try to find a team for you to play on. Many teams need more players and would love for you to join them. Also, please attend the captain's meetings; these meetings are great opportunities to join a team.

Sport Clubs

What exactly is a Sport Club?

A Sport Club is a recognized student organization formed by individuals with a common interest in a sport. A Sport Club's primary goal is to promote and develop interest in that particular sport. Clubs may be instructional, recreational, competitive or may be involved in any combination of these elements.

Regardless of the type of club an individual may choose to join, she/he should appreciate and enjoy the recreational and social benefits to be derived from participation.

The success and strength of the Sport Clubs Program depends largely upon the quality of student leadership and the degree of involvement of club members. Students assume an active role in the organization and administration of their club. Members have the collective responsibilities of writing their club constitution and by-laws, planning and promoting club activities and events, as well as, raising and managing funds to support the club.

Who is eligible to participate?

Sport Club participation is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate full-time students and faculty/staff. Individual club constitutions and association rules may also determine membership guidelines, however no person shall be excluded on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, or sexual orientation.

Participants in Sport Clubs are required to have accidental/medical insurance that will cover them in the event of injury or illness. Each club member must sign a Release and Indemnity Agreement form, have a physical examination performed by a doctor, and have both forms on file at the Sport Clubs office before she/he is recognized as a member of a Sport Club.

How do I start a Sport Club?

If your favorite sport, or one you just like to play, is not currently offered in the Sport Clubs Program, you may consider organizing a club on your own. A new club may be formed by any group of interested students, just come by the Sport Clubs office in the Health & Fitness Center and we'll help you get started.
