Safety
Unit
The
Public Safety Unit consists of two un-sworn security officers and is responsible for performing important crime prevention and
safety activities for the UNC Asheville community. The primary responsibility
of this unit is to limit the opportunity for crime to occur by securing
buildings, monitoring security lighting, providing visible patrol,
and providing escorts. When performed diligently, these crime prevention
activities can play a role in limiting the amount of criminal activity
that occurs on UNC Asheville property.
Another
area of importance is the role that this unit plays in providing
basic public safety services to the UNC Asheville community. These
officers assist police officers by responding to emergency and non-emergency
medical calls. They also respond to fire alarms and reports of fires
throughout the UNC Asheville Campus and provide assistance to
stranded motorists by providing key extractions and jump-starts.
This unit provides limited assistance to police officers at the
police officers request. This assistance can range from
interviewing witnesses to assisting with emergencies.
