| Communications
Unit
The
Communications Unit serves as the first link between those in need
of assistance or information and the Campus Police.
These dedicated personnel provide 24 hour emergency and non-emergency
call-taking services within the Campus Police.
Telecommunicators
are responsible for answering 2 incoming phone lines, 6 interoffice
lines, 911 calls from Buncombe County, monitoring 3 radio frequencies and 30 alarms (fire and burglar).
In addition to call-taking
responsibilities,
the telecommunicators dispatch UNCA Officers, operate a
computerized dispatch log and the Division of Criminal information (DCI) network.
They also assist walk up complainants and process parking citations.

The
UNC Asheville Campus Police is an authorized DCI (Division of Criminal Information) terminal user. This provides
officers with instant access to local, regional, state, and federal
criminal justice information such as wanted and missing
persons, stolen vehicles, stolen property, criminal records,
etc.
