Graphic Design
University Publications has experienced graphic designers who will take the approved copy and prepare a design, using graphic elements that support the editorial message and tone of your piece. We attempt to give UNC Asheville publications a consistent look, based on sound design principles, University of North Carolina standards and state of North Carolina publications regulations. For example, university publications must include certain identifying graphic elements such as the UNC Asheville logo or seal. Our graphic designers use Macintosh computers and software. If you plan to submit photos or other graphic elements electronically, please discuss this with the designer working on your publication.
In consultation with you, the designer makes decisions about format, size, type and color of paper, ink, etc. (Since many of these factors are determined by time and cost, these decisions likely will have been made in the planning meeting.) The designer will make a proof of what the finished publication will look like. After internal proofreading, we’ll contact you to review the proof. You may make changes and adjustments until you approve the publication in writing. Several rounds of proofing may be necessary before you and the University Publications staff are satisfied. |
