Welcome to UNC Asheville's new student orientation program.

Congratulations on being accepted to UNC Asheville.  Now it’s your turn to take advantage of the university’s experiences and opportunities. New student orientation sessions will help you make a great start.

New Student Orientation at UNC Asheville is the first and most important step in becoming a Bulldog and is required for success at UNC Asheville.  During orientation, new students learn about academic advising, registering for classes, campus resources, and much more.  Each orientation session is packed with fun activities and chances to meet other new students.  New Student Orientation employs UNC Asheville students to assist with helping new students meet other new students, learn about campus resources and social activities, and navigate the curriculum requirements, and find their niche here.

New Student Orientation is a fun-filled, informative program for new freshmen and transfer students designed to help you succeed in a new learning environment. We also offer Parent Orientation sessions that will help your parents stay connected to the university as well. Be sure to register for orientation as early as possible to reserve your space in this informative program. In order to attend orientation, you must pre-register for a session.

When is orientation?
The next scheduled new student orientation session is scheduled for January 12, 2009 for who are admitted for the spring semester. You will receive registration materials via email in the coming weeks that will give you directions for registering to attend this session.

For students admitted for fall semester, UNC Asheville offers several orientation sessions for freshmen and transfer students.

New student orientation for freshmen is a two-day program that takes place in June.  Students are encouraged to sign up early to reserve their place in one of the June sessions.  Students participate in a series of small group and large group sessions that cover academic, social, and resource information. Students also take care of preparation details such as immunization information, obtaining a student ID, and registering for first semester classes.

New Student Orientation for transfer students is a one-day program that also takes place in June. Students participate in a series of sessions that cover academic, social, and resource information as well as take care of preparation details such as immunization information, obtaining a student ID, and registering for first semester classes.

What else do I need to know?
In addition to New Student Orientation, students are encouraged to participate in a variety of start of semester activities that take place in August prior to the start of classes.  These activities include trips and outings with others who share similar interests such as the arts, local history, health and wellness, backpacking, camping and hiking.  Additionally, there are social entertainment events, convocation, and preliminary class meetings with faculty that take place during the August program.
