The grant was for $300,000 from the State Energy Office. All of the grant projects that were funded aimed at reducing the energy costs and footprint on our campus.
Background/Companion Document.
Courtney Galatioto gave the group some background on the draft policy:
- The current policy from 1997 is outdated.
- Draft policy has current technical specifications.
- Based on studying other college energy policies.
- UC Berkley had the most comprehensive policy.
- A section on Information Technology Services was added.
- Began to develop the enforcement component.
Sustainability Subgroup feedback on the draft policy:
- The background/companion document is incredibly helpful and rich with information.
- There’s a combination of procedures mixed in with policy statements.
- Staffing for Sustainability oversight on campus. Courtney showed a spreadsheet of what other UNC campuses have in terms of sustainability personnel.
- Challenges are going to be: Limitations on resources, and, need to ensure buy-in for campus constituents.
Next Steps for Sustainability Subgroup:
- Continue to work on best practices for assigned Sustainability Plan components.
- Consolidate the groups on campus who are working on sustainability.
- Study key institutions for best practices for a Sustainability Council or Group.
- Study ways to fund a sustainability position.
- Participate in the Appalachian Energy Summit in July 2012.
- Consider a more comprehensive suite of policies, one for each Sustainability Plan Component.
Rob Nelson concluded the meeting at 12:10 pm.
