UNC Asheville Career Center Holds "Life is Calling... What is Your Intention" Week;
Events Include National Speakers, Labyrinth and Equine Learning Experiences

UNC Asheville's Career Center will host "Life is Calling… What is Your Intention," a series of events March 31-April 4, designed to help participants discern their life intention. The series will feature national speakers, resumé clinics, an equine-assisted learning experience, Feldenkrais Method workshops and a guided labyrinth. All events are free and open to the public.

Intention Week kicks off with a talk by noted motivational speaker Adair Cates at 4 p.m. Monday, March 31, at UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, room 221. In her presentation on "Live with Intention, Passion and Purpose," Cates will be joined by her husband, musician Chris Cates of Synergy Shift. Adair will address how the audience can let go of limiting beliefs, create a new vision for personal identity, and create action steps toward their goals. She is a trained LifeSuccess Consultant and is the author of "Live with Intention: Ten Steps to Creating the Life of Your Dreams."

Other events include:

-- The instructors of Horse Sense of the Carolinas Inc. will show how horses can benefit students in "An Equine-Assisted Learning Experience" at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, on the A.C. Reynolds Green, located behind Ramsey Library. Shannon Knapp, founder and president of Horse Sense, will demonstrate how working with horses can teach leadership development and team building. After a 10-year career as a college professor, Knapp began working with abused and neglected horses. She now pairs rescued horses with people in her innovative Horse Sense curriculum.

She will demonstrated this noted mind-body approach to developing poise, creating posture awareness, and moving toward life goals. Plonka's movement experience spans more than 30 years. She has served as artist-in-residence at the Guggenheim Museum and movement consultant for theater and television companies around the world, from the Irish National Folk Theatre to Nickelodeon. Currently she is director of the Asheville Movement Center.

-- UNC Asheville's Career Center staff will lead a guide labyrinth experience from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 4, on the University Quadrangle.
