Jewelry Maker Phil Carrizzi to Speak at UNC Asheville's Craft Lecture Series on October 6-7

UNC Asheville's Craft Campus will continue its year-long lecture series, "Meet the Maker: Conversations of Meaning with Craftspeople," with talks by noted jewelry maker Phil Carrizzi. He will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at UNC Asheville's Rhoades-Robinson Hall room 125 and again at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at UNC Asheville's Owen Hall room 237. The events are free and open to the public.

Carrizzi is associate professor and founding chair of the Allessee Metals/Jewelry Design Program at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Mich. He holds bachelor's degrees in painting, metalsmithing and creative writing from Eastern Michigan University and a master's of fine arts degree in metals from the University of Washington. Carrizzi is known for his innovation in metalsmithing and advancements in 3-D prototyping and associated computer technology. His objects have been featured in more than 50 group exhibitions and have been published on the cover and in the pages of Metalsmith magazine and Lark Books' jewelry series. Recently, Carrizzi lectured and exhibited in Dubai, mounted his first solo exhibition "Voluptuous" at Penn State University, and exhibited collaborative work in five states.
