North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement Hosts Talk on Canada

The North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement will host a talk by Christine Pappas, consul for Political and Economic Relations and Public Affairs at the Canadian Consulate General in Atlanta, at 11:45 a.m. Friday, May 2, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. Pappas will discuss "Canada: Our Neighbor to the North." Her talk will focus on current relations between Canada and the United States in the areas of immigration, trade, environment, tourism, healthcare, drugs and culture. The event is free and open to the public.

Prior to her appointment as consul, Pappas spent two years as the deputy foreign director for the Caribbean in the Caribbean and Central America Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa, Canada. She has also worked for other bureaus, including the Communications Bureau and the South America Division. Before joining the Department of Foreign Affairs, Papas was an international page editor at the Japan Times in Tokyo and editor at Knight Ridder Financial News in the company's Tokyo bureau. She holds a degree in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa.
