UNC Asheville will host two distance learning courses designed for lateral entry teachers beginning in January. The three-credit hour courses, "Methods and Materials of Teaching in the 6-12 Classroom for Lateral Entry Teachers" and "Educational Psychology for Lateral Entry Teachers," will be offered via teleconference and the Internet. Teleconference locations will be on the campuses of UNC Asheville, Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, McDowell Technical Community College in Marion and Murphy High School’s Cyber Campus.

"Educational Psychology for Lateral Entry Teachers" will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from January 22- March 4, 2008. "Methods and Materials of Teaching in the 6-12 Classroom for Lateral Entry Teachers" classes will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from March 18-May 6, 2008.

The courses are designed for teachers who have their own classrooms and are seeking alternative licensing through the Regional Alternative Licensing Center. Classes will focus on best practices as described by the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, classroom management and assessment.

Tuition is $253.02 plus a $20 non-refundable application fee. Students enrolled in both classes must have a computer with Microsoft Word and Internet access.
