"Fox Dreams" by Eliza Hafer

The color-saturated images of dreamscapes are fertile ground for Asheville artist Eliza Hafer. Drawing upon the ethereal qualities of these sleeping journeys, Hafer has created a new exhibition featuring acrylic paintings and masks featuring people and animals. "Exploring the Mine" will be on view October 1-30 at UNC Asheville's Blowers Gallery. A reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the gallery.

A native of New England, Hafer holds a bachelor's degree in art from the University of California at Berkeley. She has held solo exhibitions in North Carolina, Virginia and California and has also exhibited paintings in a number of juried and group shows. Hafer is a student of Jungian dream work and the use of art in tribal healing rituals. She applies those studies to her paintings.
"In my work, I often overlay many thin layers of acrylics to create a luminous surface. I revel in lush color harmonies," said Hafer. "I'm fascinated by mixing realistic with abstract passages to create a lyrical kind of realism."
