Noted jazz musician Burton Greene will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. Pianist Bill Gerhardt, bassist Mike Holstein and saxophonist Aimee Sullivan will join Greene after a solo set. The event, which is part of the Jazz Composers Forum monthly series, is open to the public. Tickets are $20 general admission and $10 for students under age 25 with ID. Tickets may be purchased at the Reuter Center reception desk before the event, or online for $21 at www.jazzcomposersforum.org.

Greene, who is currently based in Amsterdam, began his career in New York's legendary jazz scene of the 1960s. Along with bassist Alan Silva, he contributed to the beginnings of free Jazz in New York with the formation of the Free Form Improvisation Ensemble in 1963. Greene co-founded one of the first World Music groups, the East West Trio, with Indian sitarist Jamaluddin Bhartiya and percussionist Daoud Amin in 1973. He has recorded for 15 labels, including Columbia, Button Nose and Cat Jazz. His latest solo album, "Live at Grasland," was released by Drimala Records in 2004.
