N.C. Center for Creative Retirement Hosts Jazz Icon Burton Greene;

Noted jazz musician Burton Greene will perform
at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. Pianist
Bill Gerhardt, bassist Mike Holstein and saxophonist Aimee Sullivan
will join Greene after a solo set. The event, which is part of the
Jazz Composers Forum monthly series, is open to the public. Tickets
are $20 general admission and $10 for students under age 25 with ID.

Greene, who is currently based in Amsterdam, began his career in New
York's legendary jazz scene of the 1960s. Along with bassist Alan
Silva, he contributed to the beginnings of free Jazz in New York
with the formation of the Free Form Improvisation Ensemble in 1963.
Greene co-founded one of the first World Music groups, the East West
Trio, with Indian sitarist Jamaluddin Bhartiya and percussionist
Daoud Amin in 1973. He has recorded for 15 labels, including
Columbia, Button Nose and Cat Jazz. His latest solo album, "Live at
Grasland," was released by Drimala Records in 2004.
