UNC Asheville to Host Talk on the Connection Between Trauma and Diabetes by Medical Director of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians

UNC Asheville will host a discussion on “The Connection of Trauma and Stress to Diabetes” by Dr. Ann Bullock, medical director for the Health and Medical Division of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in UNC Asheville’s Humanities Lecture Hall. A reception with the speaker will follow the talk, which is suitable for medical and lay audiences. The event is free and open to the public.

A member of the Cherokee Indian Hospital medical staff since 1990, Bullock oversees the medical components of the Health and Medical Division and has direct responsibility for a number of medical programs, including the Cherokee Diabetes Program and the Qualla Youth Health Center. In addition, she serves as an advisor to the Indian Health Services National Diabetes Program. Bullock holds a medical degree from the University of Washington and is board certified in family medicine. She is enrolled member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.

The event is sponsored by the UNC Asheville Office of Multicultural Student Programs, Department of Health and Wellness, Office of Cultural and Special Events, Pre-Health Professions Program and the Hippocrates Student Organization.
