UNC Asheville Hosts Exhibition of Pieced Quilts

"Hearthsong"

Some 12 pieced quilts from local artist Jane Weaver will be on view from March 2-30 at UNC Asheville Blowers Gallery. An opening reception with the quilter will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, in the gallery.

Weaver, a resident of Weaverville, creates works based on geometric designs, particularly the circle and spiral. Her educational background in mathematics combined with her Mennonite upbringing lends themselves to her current pieces. Weaver’s selection and matching of fabric is disciplined and precise, and because of this she often experiments with more improvisational forms of geometry.
