UNC Asheville Hosts Screening of Documentary "Pulled from the Rubble";
Filmmaker Margaret Loescher to Speak

When filmmaker Margaret Loescher’s civilian father was severely injured in a bombing in Baghdad, she decided to craft a film about her family’s recovery in the months following. The result is the critically acclaimed documentary “Pulled from the Rubble,” which will be screened at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. Loescher will give a talk following the screening. The event is free and open to the public.

Trained as an anthropologist, Loescher received her bachelor’s degree from Cambridge University and her master’s degree at the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology at Manchester University. She has also trained at the National Film and Television School, U.K, and has been making independent films in New York City, London and Norwich. Hailed as “an intimate, inspiring portrait of courage and resilience” by the New York Times, “Pulled from the Rubble” is her first feature documentary. She is currently working on her second feature documentary about Burmese refugees in Thailand.

The event is sponsored by UNC Asheville's Human Rights Center and the student chapter of Amnesty International.
