UNC Asheville's Music Department to Hold Four Concerts in November
UNC Asheville’s Music Department will continue its
2005-06 concert season with four concerts in November. The events are
open to the public and will be held in UNC Asheville's Lipinsky
Auditorium. Admission is $5 at the door.
The University’s Concert Band, String Ensemble and String Quartet will
perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. The Concert Band will perform works by
Ralph Vaughn Williams, Haydn Wood, Steven Melillo and Henry Fillmore.
The String Ensemble will perform selections by Bach and Handel, as well
as a composition by UNC Asheville Music Department Chair Wayne Kirby,
entitled “Canon, Chaos and Loops.” Among the String Quartet concert
highlights will be a performance of Quartet #12 in G major by Mozart.
Three student jazz combos will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. The
groups are under the direction of Tom Coppola, Tim Haden and Rich
Willey.
Lipinsky Auditorium will be filled with the sounds of the UNC Asheville
Percussion Ensemble at the 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. Made up of six
student musicians, the ensemble performs under the direction of Matthew
Richmond. Among the concerts highlights are “Crystal Silence” by Chick
Corea, “Log Cabin Blues” by George Hamilton Green and a piece composed
by the ensemble.
The final November concert brings pianist Hwa-Jin Kim to the stage for a
solo performance at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. The concert program will
feature works by Chopin, Granados, Liszt and Prokofieff.
