UNC Asheville Student Chosen to Plan International Women's Conference in Abu Dhabi
Kristen Drum, UNC Asheville senior mathematics major and Teaching Fellow, was recently selected to join an international student committee to plan the second annual Women as Global Leaders Conference. The conference will be held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, next spring. Drum attended last year’s conference with seven other UNC Asheville students. As part of her duties, Drum will work with student representatives from 13 countries and serve as an ambassador before, during and after the conference. She will be paired with a student from the United Arab Emirates to further strengthen international relationships among women. The conference is sponsored by Zayed University, a women’s college with campuses in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The symposium will allow participants to interact with prominent women leaders, students and educators from more than 50 countries. This year's conference theme, "Communities in Transition," will focus on the ways women can act in leadership roles at the grassroots level to effect change on both a local and global scale.
