Leadership Haywood Now Accepting ApplicationsApplications are now being accepted for Leadership Haywood 18, a community leadership development program specifically designed for the people of Haywood County. Classes will begin in February 2006. Leadership Haywood is one of UNC Asheville’s Leadership Programs. Now in its 18th year, Leadership Haywood addresses issues affecting the future of Haywood County and prepares and motivates participants to become actively involved in community decision‑making processes. The program includes an all‑day opening retreat in February followed by seven half‑day sessions through May on topics covering governance, health and environment, the arts and non‑profit organizations, economic development, history and education. “Leadership Haywood is an opportunity to explore and discuss a wide variety of important topics and help the participants define their personal role in Haywood County’s leadership,” said Gerry Goertz, UNC Asheville Leadership Programs director. The cost of Leadership Haywood 18 is $350. Tuition is payable by an employer, a sponsoring organization or the participant and covers all materials and refreshments. A limited number of partial scholarships are available to help with the cost.
