N.C. Center for Creative Retirement Launches Baby Boomer Program with Free Open House:
Series of Workshops to Address Local Needs

As of 2003, Baby Boomers represented the largest component of Buncombe County’s population. In response to the local need, the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement (NCCCR) has established “Transitions: Life Planning for Boomers,” a program to help Baby Boomers understand and plan for midlife changes, challenges and opportunities.

An open house to launch the program will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. Attendees will learn more about the Transitions program and its workshops and facilitators; participate in a personal assessment exercise; hear about past participants’ experiences; and register for a workshop. The event is free and open to the public. There is no age restriction for participants.

The Transition program will host a series of four workshops this fall.

Life coach Denise Hedges will lead “Consciously Create a Fabulous Life” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays from October 25-November 8. This workshop will help participants take a critical look at the quality of their lives, create a compelling vision of their future and develop a plan to help bring more fulfillment and effectiveness in their personal and professional lives.

Joel Kelley, financial planner with Woodstone Financial firm, will lead a workshop on “Financial Planning for the Next Chapter,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays from October 25-November 8. Topics covered will include methods for saving and investing, compound interest, retirement plans, debt and credit, mutual funds and risk tolerance.

Health educators Rob Luka and Janet Konchar will lead a workshop on “The Insider’s Guide to Mid-Life Health and Fitness,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays from October 27-November 10. Participants will learn about nutrition, activity, behavior modification and identifying Baby Boomer health risks.

George Fleming, business and career coach, will lead the workshop “Exploring Career Possibilities for Mid-Life and Beyond,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays from November 1-15. Fleming will help participants define their idea of an ideal life and occupation and develop the strategy to achieve those career and lifestyle goals.

Registration for the workshops is limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tuition is $60 per workshop and includes all workshop materials. Participants who are not already NCCCR members must pay an addition $30 nonrefundable membership fee.

For more information or to register for a worship, call Joan Galvin, NCCCR Transitions Program Coordinator, at 828/251-6198 or send an e-mail to jgalvin@unca.edu.
