![]() Drama students create some spooky fun! |
Want some chills and thrills this Halloween? Visit the UNC Asheville Drama Department’s Haunted Theater on October 22-24 and 28-31 for a spine-tingling experience. UNC Asheville drama students will transform UNC Asheville's Carol Belk Theatre into a house of horrors filled with ghouls and other supernatural surprises. It promises to take the phrase "stage fright" to a whole new level!
Special less-scary "lights on" tours will be available for children from 6-7 p.m. each night. Spooky adult tours run from 7-10 p.m. nightly. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for students and $4 for children ages 10 and younger. Group rates are available.
The eighth annual Haunted Theater is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s student chapter of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT). Proceeds will benefit the group’s trip to the national conference next year to compete in the Tech Olympics. This competition tests the speed and accuracy of backstage skills -- light hanging, properties shift, quick costume change, cut/saw/nail, and crosby and thimble, where competitors rig cable to hold scenery or people. The UNC Asheville USITT student chapter is the longest continuing in the United States and consistently wins top honors at the Tech Olympics, including the National Title in 2003, 2000 and 1996.
