UNC Asheville's Music Department Continues Its Fall Concert Season;
Mississippi State University Faculty Brass Quintet Featured Performer in
October
UNC Asheville’s Music Department continues its fall concert season
during October with a special performance by the Mississippi State
University Faculty Brass Quintet and a concert by the UNC Asheville
student jazz combos. Concerts will be held in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky
Auditorium. Admission is $5 at the door.
The Mississippi State University Faculty Brass Quintet will perform at
7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11. The concert is part of the Quintet’s 2004
tour, which includes performances in Georgia, Mississippi and North
Carolina. The group will perform compositions by Karel Husa, Michael
Praetorius and arrangements of three gospel tunes. Members of the ensemble
include Michael Brown and Michael Huff on trumpet, Sheree Lence on French
horn, Richard Human on trombone, and George East on tuba.
Four student jazz ensembles will take center stage at 4 p.m. Sunday,
Oct. 31. Under the direction of UNC Asheville jazz instructors Tom
Coppola, Tim Haden, David Wilken and Rich Willey, the groups will perform
a variety of jazz compositions. The concert will include works by Duke
Ellington, Horace Silver and Wayne Shorter as well as pieces composed by
UNC Asheville students Will Farley, Michael Gamble and Michael Libremento.
