Leadership Haywood Now Accepting ApplicationsApplications are now being accepted for Leadership Haywood 17, a community leadership development program specifically designed for people who care about the future of Haywood County. Leadership Haywood is one of UNC Asheville’s Leadership Programs. Now in its 17th year, Leadership Haywood addresses issues affecting the future of Haywood County and prepares and motivates participants to become actively involved in community decision-making processes. The program includes an all-day opening retreat on February 8, 2005, followed by seven half-day sessions through May on topics covering governance, health and environment, the arts and non-profit organizations, economic development, history and education. "Leadership Haywood is an opportunity to explore and discuss a wide variety of important topics and help the participants define their personal role in the community’s leadership," said Gerry Goertz, UNC Asheville Leadership Programs director. The cost of Leadership Haywood 17 is $350. Tuition is payable by an employer, a sponsoring organization or the participant and covers all materials and refreshments. There are a limited number of partial scholarships available to help with the cost.
