UNCA to Hold Fall Continuing Education Classes;
Courses in Investing, Russian Language and Culture and LSAT Prep Offered

UNC Asheville will offer fall continuing education classes in investing, Russian language and culture and LSAT prep beginning in October. Classes are open to all interested students and are offered through UNCA’s Special Academic Programs.

The four-week course "An Investment Strategy for the 21st Century" will meet from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning October 15. Classes will meet in UNCA’s Owen Conference Center. This course will offer easy, practical approaches to financial planning. Topics will include the basic principles of successful investing, investment options and monitoring wealth. Instructor Joseph Kiely has taught college-level investment courses for more than 12 years. He also a financial columnist for the Greenville, N.C. "The Daily Reflector" newspaper. Cost for the course is $95 per person or $145 per couple.

"An Introduction to Russia, the Russians and Their Language" will be offered from 6-8 p.m. for eight consecutive Thursdays beginning October 16. Classes will meet in UNCA’s Rhoades Hall room 117. A course in beginning Russian, this class will begin with a short review of Russian history, geography and culture. An introduction to the Russian sound and writing system will also be included. Instructor Fred Turner, a graduate of the Institute of Advanced Russian and Duke University, has taught Russian at the college level. He has spent more than seven years living and working with Russian people. Cost for the course is $40 plus a required textbook, which is available at the UNCA Bookstore.

The six-week LSAT prep course will be held from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning October 28. Classes will meet in UNCA’s Rhoades Hall room 117. This course is designed to prepare students for the December 6 LSAT, a standardized exam for admission to all 201 Law School Admission Council member schools. Instructor Brian Butler is a UNCA Philosophy Department faculty member and serves as the pre-law student advisor. He holds a doctorate in philosophy from Claremont Graduate University and a doctorate in law from the University of Chicago. Cost for the course is $500, which includes study materials and practice disk. A $10 late registration fee will be added after October 21.
