N.C. Center for Creative Retirement's College for Seniors Offers Fall TermOlder adults can go back to school this fall at UNC Asheville’s nationally renowned College for Seniors. More than 60 eight-week long courses are available. With no tests, grades or prerequisites besides your curiosity and age (50 and over), you can examine America’s healthcare system or sustainable development, take up quilting or portrait drawing and practice T’ai Chi or strength training. If the arts are your thing, take a course in Tiffany glass, oil painting, architectural history, piano or explore the lives and works of poplar composers. Those interested in getting started in the world of computers can dabble in eBay and PowerPoint. Contemporary issues, including media and war, retirement investing and the African American experience in Asheville may interest some students. History courses can be mixed with foreign language, literature classes with personal development, and religion courses with science. There’s something for everyone and great companionship, too. Classes will take place in the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement’s new Reuter Center on the UNCA campus and Deerfield Retirement Community in south Asheville. The fall term runs from September 22 to November 17 and costs $112 for as many classes as you can schedule plus a parking permit, UNCA library card and more. Priority registration will be given to those who sign up by August 29. To enroll, call 828/251-6140. College for Seniors is a program of the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement, now in its 15th year.
