Wilkes Central High School Takes First Place

The final round of the 36th annual UNC Asheville Knowledge Bowl was held Saturday, Nov. 1, on the UNCA campus. Wilkes Central High School of Wilkesboro took first place. The winning team received $400 and the opportunity to move on to a national competition.

Second place went to Lincolnton High School in Lincolnton and T.C. Roberson High School in Asheville placed third.

The competition began with 23 teams battling for a spot in the final rounds. Eight teams qualified for the double elimination finals. Each school sent teams of six students to answer an array of questions written by UNCA faculty members on topics ranging from science and mathematics to history and literature.

The Knowledge Bowl was co-sponsored by Sodexho, Pepsi and Entenmann's.
