Family Business Forum to Host Workshop with J.D. Martin Jr.UNC Asheville's Family Business Forum will host a workshop with J.D. Martin Jr., founder and president of Arbor Engineering Inc., from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at UNCA's Kellogg Center, 11 Broyles Rd., Hendersonville. The program is open to forum members and their guests; a limited number of seats are available for family business owners interested in membership. Arbor Engineering focuses on landscape architecture, civil and environmental engineering and recreational planning and design. Martin will discuss how the company incorporates current technology, experience and personalized service when dealing with clients. Martin, who holds a Ph. D. from Clemson University, previously worked in the Horticulture Department at the university. In addition to holding this faculty position, Martin was responsible for grounds and special services. A light breakfast will be held before the program. The discussion will begin at 8:30 a.m. UNCA's Family Business Forum, the first program of its kind in the region, was developed to enhance the continued viability of family-owned businesses in the Asheville area. Membership in the forum is open to firms that have a family member with controlling interest in the business and at least one family member currently employed in the business. In addition to seminars and workshops, members receive current research and articles on family business issue, a quarterly newsletter and the opportunity to network with other family-owned business members who face similar challenges of perpetuating a family business.
