Public Invited to UNCA Fall Humanities LecturesUNC Asheville invites the public to attend a series of weekly fall lectures on the humanities. The lectures, part of UNCA's Humanities Program, are given by UNCA faculty members and are free to the public. A new lecture series will be offered in the spring semester. **Week of November 4: Melissa Burchard, assistant professor of philosophy, will explore "Philosophy" at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in the Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture is part of the Humanities 124 course, "The Ancient World." Lothar Dohse, professor of mathematics, will speak about "The Reformation" at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in Lipinsky Auditorium. The lecture is part of the Humanities 214 course, "The Medieval World." Kenneth Betsalel, chair and associate professor of political science and Seamus McNerney, Humanities Program lecturer, will discuss "Modernism in Music" at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in the Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture is part of the Humanities 324 course, "The Modern World." "Contemporary Religion" will be the topic of a panel discussion at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in Lipinsky Auditorium. The lecture is part of the Humanities 414 course, "The Individual in the Contemporary World." **Week of November 11: Brian Butler, assistant professor of philosophy, will examine "Hellenistic Civilizations" at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, in the Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture is part of the Humanities 124 course, "The Ancient World." Michael Gillum, professor of literature and language will explore "Northern Renaissance, Skepticism and Othello" at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, in Lipinsky Auditorium. The lecture is part of the Humanities 214 course, "The Medieval World." "Citizenship and the State: The Interwar Years" will be discussed by Jeff Konz, associate professor of economics at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in the Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture is part of the Humanities 324 course, "The Modern World." Dee Eggers, assistant professor of environmental studies, will talk about "Environment and Human Health" at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Lipinsky Auditorium. The lecture is part of the Humanities 414 course, "The Individual in the Contemporary World." **Week of November 18: "Rome" will be the topic of Brian Hook's lecture at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in the Humanities Lecture Hall. Hook is an assistant professor of classics. The lecture is part of the Humanities 124 course, "The Ancient World." Dan Pierce, assistant professor of history, will examine, "Pre-Columbian Americas" at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Lipinsky Auditorium. The lecture is part of the Humanities 214 course, "The Medieval World." Elizabeth Snyder Hook, assistant professor of foreign languages, will discuss "World War II, the Holocaust and Existentialism" at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, in the Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture is part of the Humanities 324 course, "The Modern World." "Science, Technology and Human Values" is the topic of Merrit Moseley's discussion at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, in Lipinsky Auditorium. Moseley is a professor of literature and language. The lecture is part of the Humanities 414 course, "The Individual in the Contemporary World." **Week of November 25: Katie Peters, visiting assistant professor of history, will explore "Judaism, the Jesus Movement and Early Christianity" at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in the Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture is part of the Humanities 124 course, "The Ancient World." John McClain, philosophy lecturer, will discuss "Absolute Power and the Baroque Style" at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in Lipinsky Auditorium. The lecture is part of the Humanities 214 course, "The Medieval World." **Week of December 2: Grant Hardy, chairman and associate professor of history, will explore "Buddhism as a World Religion" at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, the Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture is part of the Humanities 124 course, "The Ancient World." William Spellman, professor of history, will examine "Europe in Global Context" at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in Lipinsky Auditorium. The lecture is part of the Humanities 214 course, "The Medieval World." "The New Physics: Alternative World Views" will be the topic of Jeff Konz's lecture at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the Humanities Lecture Hall. Konz is an associate professor of economics. The lecture is part of the Humanities 324 course, "The Modern World." Chancellor James Mullen and William Spellman, professor of history, will discuss "Humanistic Education" at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in Lipinsky Auditorium.
