UNCA to Host Reading by Author Joelle Fraser

UNC Asheville will host a reading by author Joelle Fraser at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at UNCA’s Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

Fraser’s recent book, "The Territory of Men: a Memoir," has been featured in Elle, Glamour and Rosie magazines. The Washington Post called her an "excellent, gorgeous writer" and called the memoir "pure heartbreak to read." The New York Times said the book was "written with simple, poignant accuracy and thoughtful frankness" and called Fraser "a sharp observer."

Fraser has received several fellowships and awards and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her essays, stories and interviews have appeared in The Iowa Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, Fourth Genre, Nerve.com and Zyzzyva. She teaches writing styles and techniques at colleges and writing conferences. Fraser serves on the Review Panel for the Caldera Artists Colony and writes book reviews for the San Francisco Chronicle.

The reading is co-sponsored by UNCA’s Creative Writing Program and the Cultural and Special Events Committee.

For more information, call Lori Horvitz, UNCA assistant professor of literature and language, at 828/251-6590.
