UNCA to Host Drama Festival of Student CreativityWork by UNC Asheville drama student will take center stage November 15-17 during the Festival of Student Creativity. A wide variety of student-directed creative work, including a drama, several comedies, musical variety and multimedia productions, will be featured. Staged readings of "WASP" and "Talk Radio" will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15. Directed by senior drama major Brian Santana, "WASP" is a comedy that explores the way families communicate. "Talk Radio," directed by junior Ryan Madden, is a scathing dark comedy about one night in the life of a talk radio host. "Death and the Maiden" and "Spatial Sunset" will be staged at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. "Death and the Maiden," a drama directed by senior drama major Jess Wells, tells the story of political torture in a South American country. "Spatial Sunset" is a multimedia show by junior multimedia arts and sciences major Dennis Woods. He uses sound, light and computer graphics to depict a sunrise over the North Carolina mountains. "A Comedy Tonight" and "A Night of Jazz" wrap up the festival at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. Directed by junior drama major Kate Yuhas, "A Comedy Tonight" is made up of two short, zany one-act plays: "The Philadelphia" and "English Made Simple." "A Night of Jazz" is a variety show of jazz songs and comic vaudeville routines. It is directed by sophomore drama major Heather Vint. Tickets are $9 general admission, $7 senior citizens and $5 students. Because of the intimate size of UNCA’s Carol Belk Theatre and often heavy demand for tickets, advance purchase is strongly advised. Tickets may be charged by phone by calling 828/232-2291 between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Tickets are also available at the box office 90 minutes before curtain and online.
