Acclaimed Poet Jessica Care Moore to Give Reading at UNCA Oct. 9

Acclaimed African-American poet Jessica Care Moore will give a reading of her work at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, in UNCA’s Highsmith Center Lounge. The event is free and open to the public.

Moore, a poet and spoken word artist, first gained fame as the only performer to win the famed Showtime at the Apollo competition five times in a row. Later she founded Black Moore Press, Inc. and published two collections of her own work, "The Words Don’t Fit in My Mouth" and the forthcoming "The Alphabet Versus the Ghetto." She now tours internationally with a prominent artists and also performs her one-woman play about the wife of T.S. Eliot called "There Are No Asylums for the Real Crazy Women."

Moore’s reading is sponsored by UNCA’s Multicutural Programs and Project STEAM.
