| For Immediate Release October 5, 2000 UNCA Chancellor James Mullen Installation Set for Friday, Oct. 6 James H. Mullen Jr., chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, will be officially installed at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6. The ceremony, with University of North Carolina President Molly Broad presiding, will be held on the terrace of Ramsey Library. Rain location is Justice Center gymnasium. The installation's opening procession will include more than 115 delegates, dressed in full academic regalia, each representing a different academic institution or learned society. Also in the procession will be UNCA alumni, student representatives and faculty, UNCA Board of Trustees members, and members of the University of North Carolina Office of the President and the Board of Governors. About 2,200 people are expected to attend. The Honorable Henry E. Frye, North Carolina Supreme Court chief justice, will administer the oath of office. Robert Pinsky, 39th Poet Laureate of the United States, will read, and Chancellor Mullen will give a keynote address. Installation speakers presenting greetings will include Asheville Mayor Leni Sitnick; Asheville-Buncombe Technical College President Ray Bailey; UNC Board of Governors Chair Benjamin Ruffin; Wayne McDevitt, chief of staff to Governor James B. Hunt; UNCA Board of Trustees Chair Robert Cranford; Faculty Senate Chair Peter Caulfield; UNCA Alumni Association President Kevan Frazier; Marilyn Lonon, Chancellor's Staff Advisory Committee; and Ryan Southern, Student Government Association president. The ceremony will close with music by Claxton Arts and Humanities Elementary Choir. The ceremony will be followed by a reception on the University Quadrangle. Media Contacts:
