| For Immediate Release October 17, 2000 Ann Barrett, Lori Horvitz to Read at UNCA Oct. 29 UNCA’s Writers at Home reading series continues at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in UNCA’s Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall with readings by Ann Barrett and Lori Horvitz. Writers at Home is part of the Great Smokies Writing Program, a consortium of the Western North Carolina writers’ community and UNC Asheville’s Creative Writing Program. The program is free and open to the public. Barrett is a non-traditional student and senior in UNCA’s Creative Writing Program. She has won contests for poetry and non-fiction, and her writing has appeared in Troika, The Caribbean Writer and Culturefront, as well as several local journals. She is currently working on a collection of poetry. Horvitz’s poetry, short stories and essays have appeared in many literary journals and anthologies, including Quarter After Eight, 13th Moon, The Brooklyn Review and The Little Magazine. She has been the recipient of writer-in-residency fellowships from Yaddo, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Cottages at Hedgebrook and the Blue Moon Center. Horvitz currently teaches at UNCA, where she is an assistant professor in the Literature and Languages Department.
