UNCA's 18th Annual Concerts on the Quad Continues July 3
with the Georgia Sea Island Singers

The inspiring Georgia Sea Island Singers will offer an evening of traditional African-American Gullah songs, dances and games at UNCA’s 18th annual Concerts on the Quad outdoor entertainment series at 7 p.m. July 3. The concert is free and open to the public.

Frankie and Doug Quimby have toured the world for more than 25 years sharing the captivating history of the southern barrier islands, isolated tracts of land originally populated by former slaves. Cut off from the mainland, their Gullah language (a blend of English and African), stories, songs and games were preserved. During the Quimbys’ performance, the audience is encourage to participate and learn the near-forgotten Gullah singing games and hand-clapping. The evening promises to be a memorable and historical tribute to this unique culture.

The public is invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. With between 500 and 2,000 people attending each concert, lawn-chair seating will be separate from blanket seating in order to preserve sight lines; please look for signage when arriving on the quad. The rain location is Lipinsky Auditorium, located on the quad.

The series continues each Monday night through July 17.
