| For Immediate Release October 25, 2000 UNCA Knowledge Bowl Kicks Off Oct. 28 The first round of the 33rd Annual UNCA Knowledge Bowl gets under way at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 28, at Karpen Hall on the UNCA campus. Nineteen high schools from across Western North Carolina have entered this year's event. UNCA Chancellor Jim Mullen will greet the group. Each high school sends teams of six students to answer an array of questions written by UNCA faculty members on topics ranging from science and mathematics to history and literature. More than 40 UNCA faculty members have volunteered for the event. Saturday's eight winning teams advance to the final round that begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 4, in Karpen Hall. The winning team receives $400 and the opportunity to move on to a national competition. Participating schools are: Asheville High School, Brevard High School, Crest High School, East Henderson High School, East Rowan High School, East Rutherford High School, Enka High School, Gaston Day School, Hayesville High School, Lincolnton High School, Owen High School, Pisgah High School, Rosman High School, Shelby High School, St. Stephens High School, West Caldwell High School, Swain High School and Wilkes-Central High School.
