The research Rick Maas and Steve Patch are conducting on mercury contamination of fish has been selected by the UNC Office of Sponsored Programs and Research as a National Spotlight. A summary of the project is featured in the program's monthly newsletter and is credited for illustrating the University system's research efforts to benefit the public's general well-being.

Safety Tip
During Thanksgiving dinner, remember that foods should not sit at room temperature for more than two hours. Keep track of how long foods have been sitting on the buffet table and discard anything there two hours or more.

Energy Tip
For every degree you lower your heat in the 60-degree to 70-degree range, you'll save up to 5% on heating costs. Wear warm clothing and set your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower during the day and evening, health permitting.
