Dr. H. David Clarke

H. David Clarke
David Clarke is Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology. His
research interest is in biodiversity with particular attention to the flora of Guyana and the classification and evolution of Acacia and other related tropical legumes. His field experience is extensive, and includes collections from Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. In recent years David has been support by the Smithsonian Institution, Conservation International, and the National Geographic Society. His research has been published in several leading journals (Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Systematic Botany, American Journal of Botany, and Orchid Digest) and in several monographs. Dr. Clarke is one of the principle organizers of the 32nd Annual Spring Wildflower and Bird Pilgrimage. Much of David’s time, when he is not at UNCA, is in the rain forests and jungles of Guyana. He is often accompanied by one or more students involved in undergraduate research.

COMING UP

Clifton Wharton to Deliver Commencement Address
Clifton R. Wharton Jr., corporate and higher education leader, diplomat and foreign policy expert, will deliver the UNCA commencement address on Saturday, May 8. The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. on the terrace of Ramsey Library. Chancellor Mullen will confer honorary doctoral degrees on Wharton as well as science columnist Sharon Begley of The Wall Street Journal, University of Hawaii President Evan S. Dobelle and Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson. About 600 students are candidates for degrees.

Help Sodexho Fight Hunger
In an effort to help fight hunger in our community, Sodexho is sponsoring the "Caring Cans Canned Food Drive" through April 30. Cans of non-perishable food may be dropped off in the Dining Hall for donation to local food banks. Diners who donate five cans will receive a free meal.
