This is the 15th in the second series of informal profiles of UNCA's many noted faculty scholars. Written by John Stevens, chief research officer, each of the weekly profiles will highlight the scholarly accomplishments and interests of faculty colleagues. Frank T. Quinlan

Frank T. Quinlan
Frank Quinlan is a Lecturer in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences and has been associated with UNCA since 1989. Frank came to UNCA after 27 years with the National Climatic Data Center, having been Chief of the Climatological Division and Chief of the Statistical Climatology Branch. Previous to his career with NCDC, he had been with Pennsylvania State University. In 1992 he established the Climate Data Research Institute and has been its director since. The institute has received $1,079,854 for a wide range of projects, mostly focused on providing support for the research efforts of the National Climatic Data Center. He was the head of the United States Delegation to the World Meteorological Organization's Commission for Climatology. Frank's current research interests focus on what the climate is really doing, with special emphasis on global warming.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Summer Science Program in England
UNCA will conduct a summer comparative science education program in England from June 30-July 27, 2004. The program is held in cooperation with the University of Bath Department of Education. Anyone who is or has been involved with K-12 science education is eligible. The $2,500 fee covers tuition, ground transportation and private housing on the University of Bath campus. Registration will remain open until the course is filled, but participants are encouraged to register prior to March 15, 2004. For more information or to enroll, contact Dr. Gary Miller at 232-5184.
