This is the 14th in the second series of informal profiles of UNCA's many noted faculty scholars. Written by John Stevens, chief research officer, each of the weekly profiles will highlight the scholarly accomplishments and interests of faculty colleagues. We hope that you will find these profiles of interest as we celebrate the intellectual vigor that is at work on our campus.

Virginia Derryberry
Virginia Derryberry is Associate Professor in the Art Department. Her works have been on display in over one hundred exhibitions around the country. Currently her paintings and drawings are on display at thirty different permanent public and corporate exhibitions. These include the Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, Carnegie Museum of Art, Tennessee State Museum, and The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. Virginia Derryberry has been recognized nationally and locally with numerous awards for her art accomplishments. These include recognitions from the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Hunter Museum, Southeastern College Art Conference for the traveling exhibition (Convergence), and Artstravaganza (Robert Stackhouse).

2004 Homecoming

Family Business Forum to Host Talk on Valuing the Family Business
The Family Business Forum will host a program on "Valuing the Family Business" from 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the Reuter Center. The presentation will be given by Crisp Hughes Evans LLP partners James F. Joyner and Gary L. Mathes. Registration for the workshop is required. The program is open to forum members and their guests; a limited number of seats are available for family business owners interested in membership. Summer Science Program in England
UNCA will conduct a summer comparative science education program in England from June 30-July 27, 2004. The program is held in cooperation with the University of Bath Department of Education. Anyone who is or has been involved with K-12 science education is eligible. The $2,500 fee covers tuition, ground transportation and private housing on the University of Bath campus. Registration will remain open until the course is filled, but participants are encouraged to register prior to March 15, 2004. For more information or to enroll, contact Dr. Gary Miller at 232-5184.
