Chancellor's Annual Campus Appreciation Dinner
Chancellor Mullen will host the free annual campus appreciation dinner from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Dining Hall. The event will feature a tropical island menu and live music.

Family Business Forum Meeting
The Family Business Forum will host a talk on "The Heart of Leadership" by Joe Judge, president of Staub Leadership Consultants, from 8:30 a.m.-noon on Thursday, Sept. 18, in the Reuter Center Chestnut Ridge room. Interested in attending? Call 251-6797 voice mail box 8003.

Asheville Mall College Night 
The region's annual College Night will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Asheville Mall. Over 130 universities, colleges and other institutions will be represented. A resource area will include financial aid information, high school counselors and ACT testing resources. The event is sponsored by UNCA; Buncombe, Madison and McDowell county schools; Asheville City Schools; and area private schools. Questions? Call India McHale at 251-6334.

Opening Doors to Teaching Workshop
The annual "Opening Door to Teaching: Teachers Make a Difference" workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in the Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. Hosted by UNCA's Teaching Fellows, this event targets high school juniors and seniors who are interested in a teaching career. To register, teachers and counselors should call the the Teaching Fellows Office at 251-6864 by September 16.

Founders Day Weekend
The sixth annual Founders Day Weekend will be held September 19-20. Events include inauguration of the UNCA Athletic Hall of Fame, recognition of the 2003 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, the unveiling of former Chancellor Patsy Reed's portrait and more. UNCA Knowledge Bowl
The UNCA Knowledge Bowl will be held on October 25 and November 1 in Karpen Hall. Area high school may now sign up teams. Winning teams receive a cash prize and the opportunity to move on to national competition. To volunteer or for more information about registering a team, call Special Academic Programs at 251-6558.

Campuswide Power Outage
A campuswide power outage has been scheduled for November 28 by Facilities Management in order to finish work on the new electrical switch gear. The work is part of the ongoing upgrade to the campus electrical distribution system. It is essential that the work be completed before onset of very cold weather. The outage will begin early in the morning and should be completed by 2 p.m., if problems do not arise. Questions?

QuinTango to Perform September 12; Tickets on Sale Now
The South American tango music of QuinTango will take center stage at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in Lipinsky Auditorium. Winner of two consecutive WAMMIES, QuinTango is the only tango music group to have given a Command Performance at The White House. QuinTango will be joined by master tango dancers Harby Gonzalez and partner Emilie Tobias. The dancers will also conduct an Argentine Tango Dance workshop from 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the YMI Cultural Center. Concert tickets are $6 for students, $12 faculty and staff, and $18 general admission. Pick up tickets in the Student Activities Office, 226 Dining Hall, or call 232-5000 to order your tickets by phone or to register for the dance class.

Reuter Center Dedication Set for September 13
The N.C. Center for Creative Retirement's new Reuter Center will be dedicated Saturday, Sept. 13, during a daylong celebration of both the new building and the Center's 15th anniversary. The theme for the day will be "Telling Our Story: Celebrating Our Past, Present and Future." Events will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
and will include art and multimedia, historic exhibits, self-guided tours, sample mini-classes and performing ensembles. A 40-minute dedication ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will include remarks by UNC President Molly Broad, NCCCR Steering Council Chair James Hegglund, Dr. Ron Manheimer and Chancellor Mullen. Kudos: Faculty Promoted
Faculty promotions were announced at the recent faculty meeting. Rick Chess, literature and language; Linda Nelms, management and accountancy; and Mark West, mass communication, have been promoted to professor. Melissa Burchard, philosophy; Thomas Cochran, psychology; Mark McClure, mathematics; Dolly Mullen, political science; Afaf Omer, sociology; Bryan Sinclair, library; Alice Weldon, foreign languages; Megan Wolfe, art; and Helen Wykle, library, have been promoted to associate professor.

Window on the Arts Series Seeks Performers
The Window on the Arts Series is seeking musicians, dancers, poets and actors to perform on Monday and Thursdays from 12:15-1 p.m. in the Ramsey Library Glasshouse. Performers will be paid. Interested? Call Kristin Mills at 253-2472.

Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for Kids
Gifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders have an opportunity to explore dog obedience training, ancient Egyptian culture, veterinarian science and much more at the 17th annual Super Saturday Program beginning September 27. Some 28 unique courses are open for registration. Classes meet 9 a.m.-noon for six Saturdays between September 27 and November 8. Classes will not meet on October 18. Tuition is $55 per class; a special rate of $45 is available for children of UNCA employees. Deadline to apply is September 19. Great Smokies Writing Program Offers Fall Classes
The Great Smokies Writing Program will offer six fall courses in poetry, fiction, nonfiction and prose. The classes are open to all interested writers. These classes qualify for audit or UNCA credit hours in literature and language. Ten-week classes are worth two credit hours and cost $140.48 for tuition and fees. Fifteen-week classes are worth three credit hours and cost $220.72.
