UNC Asheville will celebrate Black History Month throughout February with a host of special events. Among the highlights will be the opening of UNC Asheville's Intercultural Center, a Step Show featuring groups from across the Southeast and film screenings.
National Public Liberal Arts Colleges Organization Moves to UNC Asheville; Professor Bill Spellman Named First Executive Director

UNC Asheville, a longtime leader in public liberal arts education, will now host the national headquarters for the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC). Founded in 1987, COPLAC is a highly regarded consortium of 25 undergraduate U.S. and Canadian institutions dedicated to the advancement of public liberal arts education.
UNC Asheville Holds Retrospective Exhibition of Local Sculptor, Former Professor Dan Millspaugh

UNC Asheville will hold a retrospective exhibition of works by noted Asheville sculptor and former professor Dan Millspaugh from January 30 to February 25 in UNC Asheville's S. Tucker Cooke Gallery. An opening reception will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in the gallery. Millspaugh will give a gallery talk at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the gallery. Events are free and open to the public.
UNC Asheville Launches Writers on the Line Series; Inaugural Event Features Talks by Acclaimed Jewish Authors Adina Hoffman and Peter Cole

UNC Asheville will launch its new Writers on the Line series in February with talks by acclaimed Jewish authors Adina Hoffman and Peter Cole. The ongoing series will feature readings, workshops and programs by noted writers and artists. Hoffman will speak on February 8, followed by Cole on February 9. Both events are free and open to the public.
UNC Asheville to Host Community Reception with MLK Prayer Breakfast Keynote Speaker

UNC Asheville will host a community reception with Bernard LaFayette, keynote speaker for the 28th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast. The reception will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. The event immediately follows the breakfast, which will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Grove Park Inn. The reception is co-sponsored by UNC Asheville's Office of Retiree Services and the Asheville-Buncombe County Martin Luther King Jr. Association. The event is free and open to the public.
UNC Asheville Announces Fall 2008 Chancellor's List

UNC Asheville Named One of 50 "Best Value" Public Colleges in the U.S. by Princeton Review

In today's challenging economy, parents and students face the daunting prospect of high costs and years of debt as they shop for colleges this spring. With that in mind, the Princeton Review released its "Best Value Colleges for 2009" earlier today.
UNC Asheville was among just 50 institutions nationwide named to the "Best Value" Public Colleges list. The Princeton Review also published a 50 "Best Value" Private Colleges list, for a total of 100 colleges in all. UNC Asheville was the only college or university in Western North Carolina to make the list. This is the third year that UNC Asheville has been selected by the Princeton Review as one of the 50 best value public colleges in the country.
