January “Writers at Home” Features Vievee Francis and Molly Walling

Vievee Francis and Molly Walling will read their works when the Writers at Home series, sponsored by UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program, continues at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., in downtown Asheville. This event is free and open the public.
Gwendolyn Boyd, Asheville Middle School Orators, and “The Parchman Hour” to Highlight Martin Luther King Jr. Week at UNC Asheville

A presentation of "The Parchman Hour" and a keynote talk by Gwendolyn Boyd, longtime activist for women's equality and recruitment of African Americans into science and engineering, will highlight Martin Luther King Jr. Week at UNC Asheville. The week will also include opportunities for student participation in a day of service during the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday, and transportation for students to other area events celebrating King's life and legacy.

UNC Asheville to Host Community Meeting on New Signage, Greenway Plans

UNC Asheville will host a meeting to brief university neighbors on plans for new signage on and around campus, and progress on the Reed Creek greenway. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at UNC Asheville's Sherrill Center, Mountain View Room. Parking will be available in the Sherrill Center deck at no cost, and all members of the community are encouraged to attend.
President and First Lady Meet the UNC Asheville Singers

The White House has provided a photo of the UNC Asheville Singers with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in the Diplomatic Reception Room, where the Singers entertained the first couple and their guests on December 14.
UNC Asheville Bestows 243 Diplomas at December 2012 Commencement

Some 2,000 family and friends gathered in UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena on Saturday, Dec. 15, to celebrate the university's newest graduates. Included among the 243 who earned diplomas in December are 12 graduates of UNC Asheville's growing Master of Liberal Arts program.

UNC Asheville Earns 10-Year Reaccreditation from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools' Commission on Colleges has announced the reaffirmation of accreditation for UNC Asheville. The announcement came at the SACS annual meeting this week in Dallas. The accreditation term is 10 years. The SACS Commission on Colleges is a regional accrediting body for degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states.
