Super Saturday Classes for Grades 3-8 Begin October 6

Registration is now open for UNC Asheville's Super Saturday program for creative, highly motivated and/or academically gifted students in grades 3-8. Classes begin on October 6, with topics including chess, photography, wildlife exploration, engineering, foreign language, theatre, and martial arts. More than 12,000 children from across Western North Carolina have explored their special interests through hands-on learning at Super Saturdays on the UNC Asheville campus.

UNC Asheville Offers GRE and SAT Prep Classes Beginning in September

Registration is now open for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) prep classes offered beginning in September by the Asheville Graduate Center. Classes will meet on the UNC Asheville campus.

Renowned Sculptural Ceramicist Magdalene Odundo to Speak in Asheville

Magdalene Odundo, the renowned Kenyan-born sculptural ceramist and professor, will speak about her work at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Asheville Art Museum. Her talk is presented in partnership with UNC Asheville's Center for Craft, Creativity & Design (CCCD), which has sponsored Odundo's visit as artist-in-residence in Western North Carolina.

N.C. Center for Creative Retirement Transitions to New Name: OLLI at UNC Asheville

As of August 1, the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement (NCCCR) has a new name, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNC Asheville. The name change reflects a new relationship with a nationwide network of 116 Osher Institutes.

New Exhibit to Feature Works by UNC Asheville Studio Art Faculty

Works by 10 UNC Asheville Art Department faculty members will be featured in a wide-ranging exhibition Aug. 24-Sept. 14 at UNC Asheville's S. Tucker Cooke Gallery. The show kicks off the gallery's 2012-2013 season. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the gallery.

ReVIEWING Black Mountain College 4: Looking Forward at Buckminster Fuller's Legacy

The Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) in partnership with UNC Asheville, the UNC Asheville Howerton Distinguished Professor in the Humanities and the Buckminster Fuller Institute (BFI) is pleased to announce ReVIEWING Black Mountain College 4 to be held September 28-30, 2012, a weekend gathering of scholars, practitioners and artists coming to Asheville to discuss, present and experience topics and workshops related to the forward-thinking ideas of Buckminster Fuller. The three-day conference will focus on Fuller's "comprehensive anticipatory design science" as a means for fostering prosperous, livable communities through creative, interdisciplinary thinking. The program for the weekend will include an array of presentations, panels and free experiential workshops connected to the vast web of ideas, initiatives and practices that Fuller championed during his life - and that others have taken on since his death.

UNC Asheville Moves Up in Forbes Magazine’s “Best Buy” College Rankings

UNC Asheville has moved into the 21st spot in the nation in this year's "Top 100 Best Buy Colleges" roster, published this week by Forbes magazine. UNC Asheville had been ranked 26th last year. Of the eight universities in North Carolina that made the list, only UNC-Chapel Hill, at 13th, ranked higher than UNC Asheville.
