Retired Ambassador James Larocco will discuss "The Arab Spring: Is it Summer (or Winter) Yet, And Why Does it Matter?" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 in UNC Asheville's Reuter Center, home of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI at UNC Asheville). Larocco is director of the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Students at the Department of Defense/National Defense University.

Marc Freedman, author of "The Big Shift: Navigating the New Stage Beyond Mid-Life" (PublicAffairs, 2011),will speak at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in UNC Asheville's Reuter Center, home of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Freedman is the founder and CEO of Encore.org, an organization designed to help people transition into career paths during the second half of their lives.
UNC Asheville Dedicates Building to Former Chancellor David Brown

UNC Asheville honored former chancellor David G. Brown, renaming the former University Hall as Brown Hall in a ceremony attended by some 250 people on the university campus today. Brown and his wife, Lin, who live in Asheville, took part in the ceremony, surrounded by family and friends.

U.S. News & World Report's new "Best Colleges 2013" rankings confirm UNC Asheville's standing as one of the nation's leading public liberal arts colleges. The rankings, released online today (Wednesday, Sept. 12), rate UNC Asheville as the seventh best public liberal arts college in the nation, up from eighth last year.
Asheville Writers to Read, Honor, 88-Year-Old Memoirist

Seven well-known Asheville authors will perform a reading of the work of 88-year-old Virginia Redfield, whose first book, the memoir "Night Bloom," was published in April with the help of Asheville's literary community.
