UNC Asheville Celebrates December Commencement

More than 2,000 family and friends gathered on Saturday morning to celebrate UNC Asheville's newest graduates. Some 207 students were honored during UNC Asheville's third annual December Commencement Ceremony, which was held at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium.
UNC Asheville to Close for Winter Break; Basketball Brings Life to Campus During Break

UNC Asheville will be closed for winter break December 18 through January 2, 2011. Some offices will be open on a limited basis December 20-22 and 29-30.
During winter break, the UNC Asheville men's basketball team will bring life to campus with three home games at the Justice Center. The Bulldogs take on Western Carolina University at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28; VMI at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31; and Liberty University at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2. UNC Asheville to conduct routine test of emergency notification system December 15

UNC Asheville's Department of Public Safety will conduct a test of its emergency notification system, including the campus Outdoor Emergency Siren, between 11 a.m. and noon Wednesday, Dec. 15. This is a routine test in accordance with the University’s emergency notification maintenance and testing protocols.
UNC Asheville to Hold December Commencement Ceremony

UNC Asheville will hold its December Commencement Ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, located in the Asheville Civic Center. Some 207 students are candidates for bachelor's and Master of Liberal Arts degrees. A reception for graduates and their families will be held in the Civic Center lobby immediately following the ceremony. No tickets are required.
UNC Asheville Board of Trustees Recognizes Achievements of Wilma Sherrill; N.C. Center for Health & Wellness Named in Sherrill's Honor

The North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness, scheduled to open at UNC Asheville in Summer 2011, has been named in honor of Wilma Sherrill, a long-time advocate for health and wellbeing for children and families. The naming was announced by UNC Asheville Board of Trustees Chairman Jim Buckner at a special gathering honoring Sherrill on Monday evening.
UNC Asheville Board of Trustees Approves Proposed Tuition and Fee Recommendations for the 2011-2012 Academic Year

The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees approved proposed tuition and fees for the 2011-2012 academic year at its meeting Monday, Dec. 6. The recommendation, which now moves to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors for consideration, originated with campus tuition and fee committees, made up of faculty, students and administrators.

UNC Asheville communication initiatives garner awards

UNC Asheville's redesigned Web site, http://unca.edu/, recently earned the first-ever "Best of the Mountains" award for Web sites from the Public Relations Association of Western North Carolina (PRAWNC). PRAWNC also gave UNC Asheville its awards for best public relations campaign for its student recruitment materials, and best public relations writing for a press release about a professor’s history of NASCAR. The "Best of the Mountains" awards were announced at an annual dinner in October.
Chief Boyce Receives Gold Badge

North Carolina native Eric Boyce was officially recognized as new UNC Asheville director of public safety and chief of police at an October 25 campus ceremony attended by many law enforcement leaders from Western North Carolina.
